It's all about the connections

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of interacting with the Deaf community, you may not realize the importance of connections. Deaf people are always welcome at other Deaf people's houses and when being introduced, the proper thing to do is figure out the connections that may link you to the other Deaf people. Being hearing, the only connection that I usually have is to Dan and Keri really. Other people I know I can mention but the main ones are Dan and Keri. Until recently.
Growing up there was only one deaf guy in school, Ian Fournier. I haven't really thought too much about him until a couple of weeks ago. Dan and I went to a Deaf camp-out in Grand Isle and while sitting there signing to some other Deaf people, one of the guys asked me if I remembered a deaf guy from my high school named Ian. Shocked I asked him "Fournier". Apparently Ian works at a School for the Deaf in southern Vermont that this other guy's kids go to and somehow my name came up and Ian mentioned that I had gone to school with him. Dan even knew who Ian was but never knew that I had gone to school with him. And Keri's ex-boyfriend (way back before Nick) was roommates with Ian. It's interesting how everyone is linked together and I had no idea about all of these connections that Ian had with people I was friends with. Small world.

That's pretty cool! It's pretty neat that Deaf people do that when they get together.

Welcome Lindsay!
It's a pretty interesting thing to witness as a newcomer, but I think that everyone does that to some extent. You try to make connections with people around you, and often you do realize how small of a world it really is : )
