Set the mood

Music has been one of the most important things in my life. Playing the piano always gave me the opportunity to express what I was feeling: banging out frustration or playing a soft melody because I was feeling sad. When I moved to Burlington it was a difficult transition to not having this opportunity to express myself though I tried to make the trek to the music halls on campus to borrow their pianos. While I always enjoyed listening to songs and singing along, it wasn't until I was without an actual way to express myself that I turned to other people's music to help me express what I'm feeling.
One of my friends and I were discussing a popular song called "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter. Part of the lyrics goes "you sing a sad song just to turn it around". She remarked that she prefers to listen to happy songs when she's having a bad day and if she listens to sad songs, it makes her feel even more depressed. I thought this was interesting because, just like the song says, I prefer to listen to whatever kind of song that I'm feeling.
I've been going through a rough patch and right on cue a new song came out that matched what I was feeling perfectly. The title is "One Step at a Time" by Jordin Sparks. I definitely recommend the song to anyone, its pretty catchy (good song to crank up and sing at the top of your lungs in my opinion...poor Dan, he's been wearing his hearing aids lately). If I could actually write to express myself, I think I would have written something very similar to this song.

I listened to sappy love songs for the first three months Micah was gone. Now, I'm all about the metal and ghetto bump, yo.
