Today there was a severe weather warning because of sleet, freezing rain, and snow hitting the area and projected to last until late Sunday. Dan and I didn't think much about it, and didn't plan for any emergencies. Luckily before it got bad this morning I did get into town today, picked up some dog food, people food and some other needed supplies. We got through the day with no problems, watched the storm blow down small limbs and predicted which trees would topple from the storm.
Around dinner time, while we were waiting for the fish to have marinated long enough, relaxing in front of the TV the lights went out. It was cool. Dan pointed out that we have an electric stove (such a guy, thinking of food first) and after about a minute, the lights turned back on. We had enough time to eat our food before the lights went off again. We found our head lamps and after feeding the dogs, decided to take them out to do their business. It was weird, and a little scary being outside in complete darkness in a wooded area. While we walked and stood in a field, I felt strangely uncomfortable that I couldn't see exactly what might be coming at me. The dogs seemed a bit anxious also (might have also been because it was sleeting and very windy) and couldn't wait to go back inside.
One of the benefits that I've found of being the proud owner of a laptop is that I can watch movies when the power is out : ) Dan and I snuggled on the couch and watched "No Reservations" I thought it was cute and Dan probably would mark it as a 'chick flick', but since it was the one movie that we knew where it was, he didn't complain very much. Luckily my battery lasted as long as the power outage, which came on after about an hour and we were able to finish it.
The most interesting thing was that the cat immediately came out of the bedroom into the living room when the power went out, and when the power came back on, he immediately went back to the bedroom. I can't decide whether he was trying to protect us or wanted us to protect him.
