One more day off...

I'm stuck on the mountain. It's been snowing all morning, and knowing this, I gave myself an hour and a half to get to class (my class starts at 12:20). I put the dogs in their kennels and hit the road. People gave me the heads up that the road was awful so I started down at 5 mph. I came around a small corner and looked ahead and saw a car, on its way up the hill, in the middle of the road. So I hit the brakes, start sliding, start pumping the brake, continue sliding (I am going down a hill), start praying that I will miss the car that is trying to get out of the way, but is fishtailing so the back of the car keeps swinging into my lane. I finally get past that car, and take a look behind me. No one. I decide to continue down. I go as slow as I can in 1st gear without stalling and get to the worst part of the mountain. As I come around the corner, I see the plow truck coming up with a few cars behind it. I start pumping the brake and am able to stay on my side of the road, although I'm sliding down, and then I stall out. Then I see a truck behind me. I got to a relatively flat part and pull over to let the truck pass and then did some thinking...was class worth the risk of something happening to me or the car? It had taken me 10 minutes already to get maybe 1/5 of the way down the mountain. Usually it takes about 5 minutes if the road is clear to get down the whole mountain, 10 minutes if the road is snowy. And I was shaking like a leaf and was nervous about any other car. I knew I could get to the bottom of the mountain, but who knows how well other drivers can drive on snowy roads. And at the bottom the road is a series of s-curves and is usually where there are cars off the road, going both up and down. I called mom to confirm that I'm not just a wuss (I still might be, but at least Dan's car is in one piece still) and headed back home. No problems. I passed the plow truck on its way back down and decided even though I probably could follow it back down, now that I had 20 minutes less time to get to class, I was going to take a snow day.
