So yesterday I successfully implemented my first lesson plan. It was pretty straightforward but I'm still proud. I learned from my first mistakes and this time didn't hand out anything till I was ready, and then I told them that I expected their pencils to not be a distraction. It is still a lot of them getting used to me and me letting them know that I won't let them push me around, but I feel like I said "I know what we're doing" and "I'm in charge" a lot less yesterday.
Because there are so many colleges around that have elementary or early childhood education courses (St. Michaels, UVM, and Champlain) there are many of us wandering around the schools any given day. Each program has 2 stages, Lit block and Student Teaching. My classroom has 3 of us in there; one student teacher, and 2 of us Lit block students (the other one is in the Elementary program, so I don't know her at all). The student teacher is pretty cool and has helped me a bit figuring out the norm around the classroom. My head teacher is really amazing and is so organized. I'm already learning so much from her and she gives me a lot of responsibility. My classmates from my program have mentioned that they just sit observing in their classrooms, or are asked to go photocopy papers. My teacher already wants me to plan out the children's next lesson for science and social studies; PENGUINS! I'll be in charge of finding an informational book, scale it for the 3 different reading levels, and find some activities for the kids. It should be fun (and hectic) to plan!

Ooooo Penguins! That's exciting. Sounds like you're getting the hang of it and having fun.
