Working out!

This morning in my Walking for Fitness class we played an awesome game called "Alaskan Baseball". We split up into two groups and one team was handed a tennis ball wrapped up in a bandana. The team with the ball chucks it as far as they can and then quickly circle up and one person walks around the circle and back to their place in the circle making a "run". The next person in the circle goes next and so on trying to get as many "runs" as possible. Meanwhile, the second team is power-walking over to the thrown ball and then lines up and passes the ball between their legs and then the next person passes the ball over their shoulder, and so on until the last person gets the ball. They shout "stop" to signal the other team their time to score runs is over and then chuck the ball. My team won! We were playing in the basketball courts and while we were finishing up our class, the girls basketball team showed up and asked to play too. Our teacher let them and split 8 of the girls that wanted to play into our groups. It gets harder the more people there are! You'd be surprised at the workout you get just by walking if you really try hard and have fun!
After Walking for Fitness I have swimming so I usually chow down a power snack and some water before class starts. I've made quite the reputation for myself in all of my gym classes as being quite animated and excited. I figure why not? Having someone cheering everyone on always makes things more fun and relaxed and helps me keep myself motivated and having fun! I didn't realize how much of an impact I made until I was walking to get into the water and a girl in my swimming class asked me if I was excited. I said "sure, you?" and she said "yeah but you are always excited about everything". Today we learned and practiced how to swim using the backstroke. I liked this better and felt more comfortable and confident! Definitely a workout. By the end of class my arms felt like I had a 50 lbs weight hanging off each arm. My sides felt tight too...I can only hope that means that where I'm sore is where I'm burning off fat and making muscle!
